Lavender Essential Oil
This study found that Lavender Oil is able to generate faster hair growth in mice.
Lavender Oil has also done really well in comparison to minoxidil how minoxidil is a chemical product - it's a vasodilator, so it helps to enlarge your veins that are heading up towards your scalp making sure that there's lots of nutrients that get there so that your scalp is nourished and your hair is healthy.
Compared to this chemical product, lavender oil it does just as well and in some cases even better than minoxidil so it's worth checking out
Mix several drops of lavender oil into 3 tablespoons of a carrier oil like olive oil or melted coconut oil and apply it directly to your scalp.
Leave it in for about 10minutes before washing it out and shampoo as you normally would and you can do this several times per week.
When you apply peppermint oil directly to your skin, it suddenly feels a bit cool and tingly in the area that the Peppermint oil has just touched. Suddenly the circulation has just increased there and that's what causes the cool tingly feeling and now peppermint oil can help to promote hair growth in the anagen or growing phase.
A study found that peppermint oil when used on mice increased the number of follicles, follicle depth and overall hair growth.
If you want to improve hair thickness and hair growth, then Rosemary Oil is a really good option to go for. It's a great choice because it helps to improve cellular generation. According to a study Rosemary Oil performed just as well as Minoxidil but with less scalp itching as a side effect.
Just mix several drops of Rosemary Oil with Coconut Oil. Apply it down for at least 10 minutes before washing it out with shampoo. Do this twice per week for the best results.
Cedar wood is thought to promote hair growth, reduce hair loss by balancing the oil-producing glands in the scalp. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties which can help to treat different conditions that may contribute to dandruff or hair loss including a mixture with Lavender and Rosemary.
Cedar Wood extract was able to reduce hair loss in this study in people with Alopecia Areata.
So you just mix a few drops of cedar wood oil with a carrier oil, for example coconut oil or olive oil massage it into your scalp and leave it on for about 10-15 minutes and then wash out as normal with a paraben free and sulfate free shampoo.
Cedar wood oil is actually very easy to find in normal supermarkets but you can find it in smaller health care shops
A 2013 study found that a mixture containing tree tea tree oil and minoxidil was more effective than just the Minoxidil on its own in improving hair growth. More studies are needed on using Tea Tree Oil.
If you've got oily skin or oily scalp it's not a good idea to use Ylang Ylang Essential Oil. This is because it's really for dry scalps because it can stimulate sebum production.
A lack of enough oil and enough sebum on your scalp can cause hair to become brittle and dry and the ends can snap off. So your Ylang Ylang Essential oil helps to improve the texture and moisturise your hair follicles.
Mix five drops of essential Ylang Ylang Oil with two tablespoons of warm oil.
Massage it onto your scalp and wrap your head with a warm towel. Leave it on for 30 minutes before washing it out.
Thyme can help to promote hair growth by stimulating the scalp and actively preventing hair loss. Like Cedar Wood Oil, Thyme Oil has been found effective in helping to regrow hair in people who are suffering with Alopecia Areata.
Thyme is also a very strong oil so you'll only need around a couple of drops in your carrier oil. You leave it on for about ten minutes and then wash it out.
Some of these essential oils can cause allergic reactions. You're more likely to have an allergic reaction if you have sensitive skin and you have allergies to lots of other things already.
Make sure you're mixing them with carrier oils, for example coconut oil or olive oil.
Symptoms of a skin irritation include:
The best thing to do is to dip a cotton bud into the essential oil and just place it somewhere inconspicuous, maybe on your wrist or behind your ear and leave it for about 24 hours or 48 hours to be on the safe side. If you don't see any irritation and it doesn't feel different in any way then you should be good to go.
We understand it’s not always easy to prepare or source these essential oils, or maybe you are not sure they will work for you. Worry not, Our very vegan hair serum contains ingredients which have been proven in multiple studies to improve the appearance and density of hair, while reducing signs of shedding, bringing you thicker, fuller looking hair. Try it out.

Watermelon is high in lycopene, it creates the red pigment in certain fruits like tomatoes and watermelons and it's fantastic for blocking DHT.
Watermelon is also a rich source of Vitamin C, B12 and B6 and citrulline which helps to eliminate excess DHT from the body also don't forget to pick up your free ebook everything you need to know about blocking DHT from itreallyworksvitamins.com
The book includes a recipe for a homemade scalp exfoliant and the best foods and drinks that help to block DHT and regrow your hair the link is here: https://promotions.lpage.co/campaigns/14434
Carrots help to inhibit dht so we recommend eating at least one raw carrot per day which helps to reduce DHT levels in the scalp.
Rumour has it that the darker the carrots the more lycopene it's likely to have.
.
Other foods that are high in lysine are guava, tomatoes, interestingly tinned and processed tomatoes have a higher lycopene content than fresh tomatoes.
Stock up on tinned tomatoes or processed pasta sauces that you can get from the shop. They are better for you for your hair than fresh tomatoes - who knew!
Other foods that are high in lycopene include
Some of the highest lycopene foods by nutrient density:
As well as being useful in helping to block DHT, lycopene has been found in some studies to help to:
White mushrooms are high in zinc and pantothenic acid both of which help hair follicles remain healthy.
Pumpkin seeds contain a compound called Delta Seven Uterine which can help to prevent the buildup of dht in the hair follicles .
Peanuts contain l-lysine which is a helpful DHT blocker.
Oysters are one of the richest sources of zinc - a mineral that can help to reduce the production of DHT.
Oysters are also extremely rich in potassium and magnesium.
Other foods that are also extremely high in zinc are:
We have to mention biotin, it doesn't actually block dht but it's fantastic for keeping your hair and scalp healthy and when your scalp is healthy that’s the best environment possible for healthy hair growth. Foods that are high in biotin include:
You want to have as many of these as possible in your daily diet to ensure that your scalp is as healthy as possible.
Remember even if you are taking on sort of a DHT blocking diet it's not going to be as effective if it's not part of a larger healthy balanced diet.
You need to really aim to get seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Sleep helps to repair all of your cells - including cells at the scalp.
Aim to do at least one bit of exercise per around 30 minutes per day of cardio helps to reduce DHT levels in the blood- i've got a previous video on this where I talk about how dht can increase with certain types of exercise.
Aim to do at least one bit of exercise per around 30 minutes per day of cardio helps to reduce DHT levels in the blood- i've got a previous video on this where I talk about how dht can increase with certain types of exercise.
Did you know that if you do weights - lifting it can increase DHT levels in conjunction with taking Whey Protein or Creatine.
This is something you'd want to bear in mind if you're genetically predisposed to balding, Whey Protein and things like Creatine accelerate the rate of hair loss. So for example if you're in your mid-20s your hair could start shedding as if you were in your 50s.
Avoid whey protein and creatine and stick to natural sources of protein and creatine for example eggs, red meat and fish. It's also a really good idea to reduce stress levels.
Cortisol which is the stress hormone can shift hair follicles out of the growing or resting phase and into the shedding phase which is why when we're stressed hair can seem to shed much faster and can start to go gray.
So try as much as possible to reduce your stress levels and take on stress coping mechanisms, for example meditation and doing something you enjoy - even if it's just reading or going for a walk and watching a program that really makes you happy
As well as these foods, it's a great idea to incorporate certain drinks especially Green Tea.
Green Tea is extremely high in antioxidants which help to slow down the conversion of Testosterone to DHT.
You can also do a green tea rinse so boil a little pot of green tea, let it cool and you can rinse it through your hair before or after washing and that helps to block DHT on the scalp.
It may not always be possible to incorporate all these DHT blocking foods into your diet. This is where our vitamins come in, with 22 natural vitamins and ingredients most of which are proven DHT blockers.

Lots of men in particular may not know that caffeine treatments are extremely useful if they’ve started experiencing hair loss.
In this 2012 study, researchers found that caffeine can even help to suppress male pattern baldness in the laboratory environment.
And a number of scientific studies also highlight that when caffeine is applied directly to the scalp it can help stimulate hair growth.
Caffeine helps to stimulate the blood vessels beneath the scalp,
So these homemade caffeine oils are definitely worth trying out.
For some of these coffee treatments you can just make once, keep it in your fridge or in a cool dark place. For one of them, you can keep it in your cupboard for up to 5 months, it’s so hassle free and the ingredients are all natural.
Also have no fear - the smell of coffee won’t linger in your hair.
You’re going to want to bear in mind:
Apply a small amount to your skin, - leave it for 24 hours - if you develop a rash, or if it feels sensitive then do not do this caffeine oil treatment, at all!
The very first coffee treatment is super easy if the only thing you’ve got in your house right now is coffee and water.
So you put three teaspoons of coffee powder into warm water. I’m using about half a litre. It’s best to use good quality coffee. It’s better for your hair
You can use instant coffee, but just remember to use the powder, if you have coffee granules you have to crush them into a powder.
So then get a funnel, and pour it into a spray bottle or an applicator bottle. So that’s it - you can use this coffee treatment straight away.
It can be used as a rinse, you can wash your hair with it by adding it to your shampoo- you can also leave it in all night - if you don’t think it’s going to keep you awake.
You can wash the coffee out the following day, you can keep it in the fridge, and use it however many times per week that you need to,
So the second Coffee Treatment is a hair mask and it only needs three ingredients:
Steps
To apply this hair mask, get some in your hand and smooth from root to tip, all over. Get ashower cap and leave it for one hour
Then just shampoo out with a mild shampoo, when you’re buying any shampoo make sure it’s Paraben and Sulphate free - because it’s much much better for your hair.
Use this hair mask treatment around three times per week. It really helps to keep hair healthy and shiny and definitely speeds up hair growth.
Another really super simple coffee hair mask I’m gonna show you also just needs three ingredients:
Steps
Take 1 tablespoon of honey.
To make our fourth Coffee hair treatment we’re gonna be using Coffee powder and Olive Oil for Hair growth -
You’re gonna need:
Steps
Apply quite a few hours before bed, because as mentioned, it could go into your bloodstream - keeping you awake, which is what you do not need.
Massage it into the scalp, massage, together with the caffeine and olive oil helps to wake up the blood vessels.
Caffeine increases blood circulation in the scalp and stimulates the roots of the hair helps them grow faster by suppressing the effect of DHT, the phytosterols in the oil helps to promote moisture retention and absorption.
So applying the oil directly to the scalp, is the best way to invigorate the hair follicles,
A paper that was published recently said that you’d need to drink 60 or so cups of coffee per day to have any kind of difference to your hair - by which time you’d have a heart attack - so don’t do that.
Because this caffeine treatment has olive oil in it it’s obviously heavier, it does make your hair a bit greasy looking. So wash it out the following day.
For this mask you’ll need
Steps
This jar will keep for a good 5 months, but keep it in a cool, dark place.
Apply the oil directly to the scalp, either on its own or combined with shampoo and leave. Maybe for a couple of hours.
Some people like to do a home workout or go for a run to really get the blood pumping and to boost circulation, and this gets blood pumping to the scalp.
Rinse thoroughly with plenty of lukewarm-ish water.
It’s best to avoid hot water on your hair, sometimes it’s a bit damaging.
These coffee treatments are not gonna work overnight - You’ve got to be consistent and patient - give yourself a good couple of months of regular usage to really start to notice the difference.
It is important to remember with genetic hair loss - the bit that’s being influenced is right down at the bottom of the hair follicle, it’s called the hair bulb so anything applied at the surface has to be able to get down to the hair bulb and it has to sit there. It’s not a case of breaking through the skin and being carried around in the blood, as that just transports the caffeine away.
And so in the lab environment, hair is put in a dish and caffeine is next to the hair bulb for a number of days. There are no studies to confirm that outside of the lab environment, caffeine can get to the hair bulb, but from anecdotal experience has found that hair has grown faster, looks really shiny, and is softer.
There is also some consensus that regularly massaging your scalp helps to stimulate the blood vessels, because healthy circulation at the scalp helps to ensure that all the nutrients are getting to the scalp, keeping everything nourished and healthy and you’ve got to lead a healthy balanced diet.
You need to make sure you’re eating the right foods, doing exercise which enhances your circulation. Reducing stress, as Cortisol, the stress hormone can move hair into the shedding phase, you’ve really got to look after yourself to get the most of these topical treatments.
As every It Really Works Vitamins are also here for you! Our 22 ingredients help to block DHT, stimulate normal healthy hair growth
Interestingly, there’s a misconception that if you have high or excessive levels of DHT, this is what’s causing hair loss in men.
This isn't quite true, dihydrotestosterone is the male sex hormone responsible for all the heavy lifting during puberty.
It’s responsible for developing male characteristics - maturation of the penis and scrotum at puberty, growth of facial, body and pubic hair, and development and maintenance of the prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
An enzyme closely connected to DHT is 5-Alpha Reductase. This enzyme converts Testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone DHT plays such a vital role in sexual development, that if you had a shortage of this hormone, it would disrupt the formation of your external sex organs before birth.
Men who have a 5-alpha reductase deficiency are also born with external genitalia that appear female.
DHT and 5-alpha reductase are hormones that are needed for normal healthy development.
Male pattern baldness develops due hair follicle DHT sensitivity. In Genetically predisposed men in certain areas on the scalp, their hair follicles are more sensitive to the effects of DHT. Over the years, this causes their hair to thin, and miniturise, in the characteristic male pattern baldness. Since DHT is a vitally important male hormone, medications that block DHT can have a number of sexual side effects.
One of the most widely used hair loss drugs is a prescription only medication called Finasteride. Finasteride was approved by the FDA in 1992 for the treatment of enlarged prostates.
Finasteride is the generic form of the drug Propecia. While Propecia is the more well-known and recognized name, they do the same thing and provide the same overall benefits.
Propecia is the most often prescribed medication for male pattern baldness.
Finasteride helps to shrink enlarged prostates, and in doing so, helps to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention or the need for surgical procedures. In the US between 2007 and 2017 over 76 million men were prescribed Finasteride.
Finasteride is a type of medicine called a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. It works by stopping testosterone (a sex hormone) turning into another hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). 1 in 20 men will experience some side effects. The most common of which include:
How can you minimize the side effects of Finasteride?
There has been some discussion online that it’s not necessary to take 1mg of Propecia per day. Dr Vikram Jayaprakash and Dr Russell Knudsen point out that Finasteride can stay in the skin for up to thirty days. The Doctors advise to take it 3 times per week, which is enough to mop up 5 Alpha Reductase without causing any side effects.
If you do experience side effects, your doctor is likely to lower your dosage.
Propecia may interact with other drugs and so don’t forget to tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.
Before using this medication, also be mindful to tell your doctor your medical history, especially of; prostate cancer, liver disease, infections and urinary problems. The vast majority of men who experience side effects from finasteride also notice these side effects stop when they stop using the medication.
In this study researchers found that other health factors in the participant’s health also leads to a similar effect of sexual dysfunction as finasteride, including:
And so, if you have these going on, they are also very likely to cause sexual disfunction in men.
Apart from taking Finasteride, there are a number of other ways to block DHT. It Really Works Vitamins contain 22 ingredients most of which are known to block DHT. Try us out today including our hair growth serum which is part of our 360° approach to hair health.
]]>What Are Those White Bulbs at the ends of your hair? Every now and then if you’ve ever noticed one or two of your hairs, on your pillow, or on your clothes you might have spotted a little white bulb at the end of the hair. Noticing hair strands falling with white bulbs on the hair ends is not an indication that you’re permanently losing your hair.
A hair that has a white bulb at the end of it is called a Club Hair. The white bulb is made of keratin (protein) and this bulb is responsible for rooting the hair in the follicle until it sheds and the hair growth cycle re-starts. In this way, the white bulb - is an indication that your hair is in the Telogen phase of growth.
Ok so what’s the Telogen Phase?
Let’s Discuss The Hair Growth Cycle: Hair growth is in four phases:
A few other lifestyle factors can also cause hair breakage, such as:
Strengthening your hair is a must so that there is no untimely breakage. If you suspect you're losing more than 100 hairs each day, you could have a condition called Telogen Effluvium. “Effluvium” means “outflow,” . This is characterized by an excessive loss of hair.
Hair loss may be due to hormonal changes due to medication illnesses, pregnancy, sickness, or treatments. Nutritional deficiencies, emotional stress, or shock can also result in hair loss.
If you are losing hair and have white bulbs attached, remember it is a temporary condition. There are ways to avoid falling out of hair with white bulbs.
We’ve got an extensive list in our E-Book These are, foods high in Lycopene including:
White mushrooms: White mushrooms are high in zinc and pantothenic acid both of which help hair follicles remain healthy.
Snack on Pumpkin seeds. These contain a compound called Delta Seven Uterine which can help to prevent the buildup of dht in the hair follicles. 5 Say No to Stress
To sum up! Hairs with White Bulbs at the ends are called Club Hairs The white bulb is made of keratin (protein) and this bulb is responsible for rooting the hair in the follicle until it sheds and the hair growth cycle re-starts. You’ll lose around 50-100 hairs per day.

If like a lot of guys it might be a huge effort to grow a thick lustrous beard, we're here to help.
In today's blog, we explore What Vitamins Are Needed For Beard Growth?
By way of a background, let's investigate what encourages beard growth in the first place.
It could be put forward that beard growth is down to higher testosterone levels, however that's not quite the case. Having lower testosterone often makes itself known in symptoms including:
And so if you're having difficulties growing a full beard, unless the above symptoms are present, it's unlikely that you have lower testosterone levels.
Beard growth is in large part, down to genetics. If your father and grandfather have a beard then the odds are in your favour.
So armed with all of the above info, can beard growth vitamins actually help and What Vitamins Are Needed For Beard Growth?
According to Jim White, dietician and spokesman for The American Dietetic Association, "the condition of your facial hair directly corresponds to the health of your body. The same nutrients that have a positive effect on our heart and other major organs also benefit our skin and hair.”
It's also important to have the best micro-nutrients with a high fatty-acid ratio.
“Vitamin A maintains and repairs skin tissue,” says White. “And keeping your skin healthy allows for better hair growth.” Our bodies turn Beta Carotene into Vitamin A which encourages your skin to produce sebum which makes your face the perfect environment for healthy beard growth.
Beta Carotene is the strong orange colored pigment found in oranges, carrots and can be found in carrots and sweet potatoes, papayas, pumpkin as well as leafy green vegetables (e.g., spinach and kale).
Increase your Vitamin A intake by drinking more milk and chowing down on
And it's good to know that It Really Works Vitamins are packed with 188% of your daily recommended allowance of Vitamin A
Niacin is a B vitamin promotes the circulation of blood to the hair follicles and in doing so, helps to enhance beard growth.
Foods packed with Niacin include:
Did you know that It Really Works Vitamins has 145% of your daily recommended allowance of Niacin?

Onion Juice can be really useful in the fight against hair loss and we deep dive about this on this blog.
That said, you should be very careful when using Onion Juice. Here are a few things you need to keep in mind:
Don’t use any of these onion juice recipes if you’re allergic to onions! Do a patch test first! Rub some of the raw onion directly onto your skin, leave it for 24 hours - if you’ve not reacted then you’re good to go!
We recommend doing this once per week -not advised to do this every single day as your scalp might become quite sensitive, especially as the other ingredients we’re adding to onion juice are really powerful.
Straining out the juice is really, really important, do not skip this step and apply the pulp straight to your hair, do not do this! If you’ve got curly hair or afro hair, it will get stuck in your curls and will look like massive flakes of dandruff. Don’t skip the squeezing step!
Be really careful - Do not Get this in your eyes - would absolutely burn your eyes - so please do be extremely careful - it would just be beyond embarrassing going in to work the next day with sore red pepper eyes This can be really messy - it goes on your face, on your clothes and I don’t wanna get it into my eyes, so what I advise is, get cotton wool pads out and just soak up the juice with the pad and put it directly to your scalp.
Don’t forget to give It Really Works Vitamins a try, we provide the minerals and nutrients needed for noticeably shiny, thicker, healthier hair.
Our high strength formulation of minerals and vitamins including Retinol, Biotin, Selenium, Zinc and Vitamins A, C, D, E and a Vitamin B Complex, enhance the strength of your hair and you are likely to notice that less hair falls out when it is brushed and washed.

This is useful for both men and women - as Zinc is an extremely useful mineral for hair growth. However we will dwell a lot on a male hormone called DHT which is involved in the onset of male pattern baldness!
We explore how Zinc can be an excellent nutrient for healthy hair growth and can help to block the hormone DHT.
So let’s talk about what DHT actually is?
DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone.
It’s a hormone produced in the skin, liver and testes.
DHT is present in both men and women, but DHT related hair loss, otherwise known Androgenic Alopecia or pattern baldness affects much more men than women.
When flowing around your bloodstream DHT attaches itself to genetically susceptible hair follicles and shrinks them, Basically this is called miniturisation. And it gradually kills the hair follicle so that hair no longer grows there.
Worldwide about 1.1 billion people are zinc-deficient due to not getting enough zinc in their diet.
That’s 1 in every 7 people literally everywhere
Zinc is required for the functions of over 300 enzymes.
It metabolizes nutrients, maintains your immune system and grows and repairs body tissues - including the scalp and hair follicles
Not getting enough zinc in your diet can lead you to:
1.) Feeling under the weather a lot more, or having immune system issues
2.) Having a leaky gut , diarrhea or Irritable Bowel Syndrome
3) Having skin issues such as acne, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis
4.) Thinning hair
As you can see Zinc is a mineral that's needed for overall wellness.
Zinc also plays a vital role in hair tissue growth and repair. It also helps keep the oil glands around the follicles working properly.
Your body can’t actually store zinc, so you need to make sure that you're eating enough every day to meet your daily requirements.
It’s recommended that men eat 11 mg of zinc per day, while women need 8 mg. However, if you’re pregnant, you’ll need 11 mg per day, and if you’re breastfeeding, you’ll need 12 mg.
You're at extra risk of developing a zinc deficiency, if you are:
Studies also show that zinc supplements can reduce hair loss caused by zinc deficiency
However, supplementing with too high of a dose can also contribute to hair loss.
With, It Really Works Vitamins - we’ve made sure to include Zinc as it’s one of the most important nutrients out there for healthy hair growth.
As well as Zinc, we have 21 other ingredients including:

Does Zinc Block DHT? It’s a little bit complicated.
Let’s take you through what happened in this study
The effects of zinc therapy on plasma testosterone (T), dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and sperm count were studied in 37 male patients who’d been experiencing idiopathic infertility for more than five years.
In the first group (T less than 4.8 ng/ml; 22 patients), T and DHT rose significantly after oral administration of zinc, as did the sperm count.
Nine wives became pregnant, six within 3 months and three within 2 months of a second trial.
In the second group (T greater than or equal to 4.8 ng/ml; 15 patients), T and sperm count were unaffected by zinc, while DHT increased significantly. There was no conception observed. The rationale of this treatment and the significance of the results are discussed.
But interestingly even though DHT increased - The enzyme 5-Alpha Reductase (which is responsible for converting Testosterone to DHT, actually decreased.
Zinc was shown to inhibit ( up to 98%)the enzyme 5 alpha reductase - and so in this way can help to reduce hair loss.
Zinc boosts testosterone.
Zinc is a favourite supplement of athletes due to testosterone’s effect on weight loss, energy, focus, and muscle mass.
But - it has been found that if you take too much Zinc - it can lead to Zinc toxicity - which can cause hair loss.
Overall, a lot more research is needed to confirm if Zinc can block DHT, but it looks as if Zinc does inhibit 5-Alpha Reductase.
When I developed my formulation for It Really Works Vitamins, I made sure that it contained:
To boost your zinc intake, it’s a good idea to stock up on:
Perhaps surprisingly, dark chocolate contains reasonable amounts of zinc.
100 grams of dark chocolate also contain 600 calories.
So while it provides zinc - it is also a high-calorie food so it can’t be relied on as your main source of zinc.
---
Red meat is a particularly great source
A 100-gram (3.5-ounce) serving of raw ground beef contains 4.8 mg of zinc, which is 44% of the Daily Recommended allowance of Zinc.
Although don-t go too wild eating red meat - indulging in large amounts of red meat, especially processed meat, has been linked to an increased risk of some cancers and heart disease.
-------
Legumes which are:
chickpeas, lentils and beans all contain substantial amounts of zinc
But annoyingly, they also contain phytates which are antinutrients that inhibit the absorption of zinc and other minerals, meaning zinc from legumes isn’t as well absorbed as the zinc from meat and fish. So make the Zinc available, you have to cook, soak or fermenting can help improve its bioavailability.
Almonds, pine nuts, peanuts and cashews and can really boost your Zinc intake!
Nuts also contain other healthy nutrients, including healthy fats and fiber, as well as a number of other vitamins and minerals. Did you know that people who eat nuts tend to live longer than those who don’t? Top fact!
Nuts have been linked to reducing risk factors for some diseases, like heart disease, cancer and diabetes
Another food group linked to a longer life are:
Whole grains including oats, wheat, quinoa, rice contain some zinc but just like legumes, wholegrains contain phytates,
Phytates bind to zinc and reduce its absorption but they do also contain important nutrients like fiber, B Vitamins, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, manganese and selenium.
Shellfish are a really healthy, low-calorie source of zinc.
Oysters contain particularly high amounts or Zinc, just 6 medium oysters contain 300% of your Recommended Daily Allowance of Zinc
Just a reminder, if you are pregnant, make sure shellfish are completely cooked before you eat them.
Some seeds like hemp, pumpkin, squash and sesame seeds contain significant amounts of zinc. They are also a great source of fiber, healthy fats and vitamins, you can try adding them to salads, soups, yogurts or other foods.
Milk and cheese contain high amounts of bioavailable zinc, meaning most of the zinc in these foods can be absorbed by your body
100 grams of cheddar cheese contains about a third of your recommended daily allowance of zinc! Whilst milk contains around 1/10th
And before I forget,
Eggs also contain around 5% of your daily recommended allowance of Zinc.
Remember It Really Works Vitamins contain 75% of your recommended allowance for Zinc. As Zinc is not stored in your body this is a great way to ensure you are not Zinc deficient.
]]>Evening Primrose Oil can help with hair loss caused by:
This is a video useful for both men and women - as Evening Primrose is an extremely useful oil for hair growth
But I am going to be discussing a male hormone called DHT which kickstarts male pattern baldness in people who are genetically pre-disposed to hair loss - so this is where hair loss runs in families.
Evening Primrose Oil contains an ingredient called Gamma Linoleic acid (GLA).
This is an unsaturated Omega 6 fatty acid that comes from plant sources including:
Gamma Linoleic Acid has shown lots of promise in blocking DHT!
Evening Primrose is a flowering plant with a yellow blossom - it grows in Europe and North America.
The oil, which is extracted from the seed, is thought to have therapeutic properties and is used as:
Lots more research needs to be done into the effects of Evening Primrose Oil - on hair growth.
But a number of studies have found that E P O can help to slow down male pattern baldness.
In men who carry a certain combination of genes, DHT or Dihydrotesterone kick starts male pattern balding by clinging to hair follicles and shrinking or miniturising them.
One important polyunsaturated fat, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), blocks DHT. GLA can be found in borage oil, evening primrose oil, and blackcurrants.
As well as helping to block DHT, this oil is known for its:
Evening Primrose Oil contains Arachidonic Acid. This ingredient has been shown to promote new hair growth and help existing hair shafts to grow longer.
Evening primrose oil is high in essential fatty acids such as
Linoleic acid is considered an essential omega-6 fatty acid, as our body cannot produce this fatty acid itself.
Fatty acids are so good for us as they:
And Omega-6 fatty acids, in particular, contribute to healthy hair!
Evening Primrose Oil can help with hair loss caused by:
Evening Primrose Oil also contains phytoestrogens, and so some people suggest it may improve the symptoms of hormone-related conditions like menopause and hair loss is a common symptom of menopause.
Unlike essential oils, Evening Primrose Oil does not need to be diluted. But you do need to do a skin patch test to check for possible allergic reactions. Leave for 24 or 48 hours - if there’s no rash - you’re good to go.
If you do have irritation, wash the area with cool water and don’t use Evening Primrose Oil ever again. Don’t worry though our vegan friendly growth serum is just what you need it helps reduce signs of shedding, bringing you thicker, fuller looking hair.
If you are using evening primrose essential oil, then you must dilute it in a carrier oil before doing a patch test or using it -
A good carrier oil is Coconut oil or Olive Oil
After a successful patch test, you can proceed with a full application to your scalp and the roots of your hair.
To do this:
You can also mix the Evening Primrose Oil into your favorite shampoo.
You just have to remember to massage the mixture deep into your roots and scalp before you rinse.

Fenugreek is also commonly used in Indian dishes. Fenugreek is so fantastic for your hair and we’ll explore how you can use Fenugreek to encourage normal healthy hair growth!
Fenugreek is packed with:
In this small study of 30 men and 30 women - researchers found that the participants taking Fenugreek capsules, twice per day for six months 82.9% reported a positive and noticeable difference in hair volume and thickness. 74.3% reported better resistance to hair shedding.
The placebo group showed no changes. In another study, researchers found that a herbal liquid concentration of Fenugreek - showed results on hair growth comparable to the 2% concentration level of minoxidil.
This was also supported by a second study in which researchers hypothesized that estrogen deficiencies are a prominent cause of hair loss.
Fenugreek is known to have high concentrations of phytoestrogen which is a plant version of estrogen. It is less likely to have unpleasant side effects because it exerts milder activity levels.
The results were similar to the types of outcomes produced by minoxidil 2%.
At the moment, researchers believe that Fenugreek stimulates blood circulation to hair follicles and the steroid saponins interact with the DHT hormone which inhibits growth.
Fenugreek has lots of Anti-Inflammatory properties and is rich in antioxidants.
Anti Inflammatory foods and products help to reduce inflammation and encourage healing - so they may be able to combat the effects of androgenetic alopecia. This may enable the hair follicle to heal so the hair growth cycle can resume.
Fenugreek is packed with Essential Fatty acids including:
These all have healing properties, antioxidants that help to encourage normal healthy hair growth!
If your hair loss is related to a bacterial infection including Seborrheic Dermatitis - Fenugreek is fantastic because it's an antibacterial so if your hair loss is related to seborrheic dermatitis or any other bacterial infection then fenugreek could really help to improve this condition.
Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water and leave it overnight in a cool place.
Grind the seeds into a paste using the same water, which will turn out to be sticky and slimy (this slippery substance is known to impart shine to your hair).
Apply it on the roots of your hair and leave it for 20 minutes. Massage a little on the scalp before rinsing your hair with a mild shampoo.
While the herb still requires further research, early studies suggest that fenugreek may help to increase testosterone by inhibiting 5-alpha reductase, which comes with the added benefit of reducing DHT levels.

]]>Using bleach lightens your hair color and can help you achieve the desired look.
However, many of us don’t realize the dangers it poses to our hair. Bleaching involves removal of melanin, which is the pigment responsible for hair color. It also raises your hair cuticles permanently, thereby making the hair drier and brittle.
Continued hair bleaching can make your hair lifeless and chemically damaged.
So let’s take a look at what hair bleach actually is,how it works and how it damages your hair
We’re also gonna serve up some detailed tips on how to take care of hair damaged due to bleaching and chemical exposure.
And you know how we love homemade remedies so we’re gonna be showing you how to repair damaged hair with some of our favourite homemade remedies!
Hair bleach is a chemical which helps to clean and change your hair tone.
The basic purpose of using a hair bleach is to lighten your hair color.
The main ingredient of hair bleach is hydrogen peroxide, which is also known as bleaching liquid.
Hair bleaches also contain some catalysts or boosters which can activate the hydrogen peroxide and speed up the bleaching process.
Generally, chemicals like ammonium persulfate or potassium persulfate are used as boosters for activating hydrogen peroxide. These chemicals work in an alkaline solution which keeps the pH of the formula at nearly 11.
So let’s talk about how bleach works - as this gives us an insight into how it damages our hair!
The hair color in any individual is determined by a pigment named melanin.
Usually, the greater the melanin content in your hair, the darker it will be.
The same pigment also determines the color of your skin and eyes.
Hence, if there is no melanin left in your hair, it will turn completely white.
When you apply bleach on your hair, it works on and softens the cuticles.
It breaks down the disulfide bonds and melanin through the oxidation process. The broken-down color molecules are colorless and look pale.
The part of the hair which was bleached will then lose its color and take the color of the bleach. This is an irreversible process.
Depending upon your hair thickness, coarseness, and how much you need to lighten it, it takes nearly 15-40 minutes to bleach your hair.
While bleaching your hair can look like a fashionable fix, it does come with harmful side-effects too.
When you bleach your hair, the bleaching process not only breaks down the -melanin, it also breaks down the fatty acids on the hair shaft.
This can make your hair very dry and brittle.
You can experience over-bleached or fried hair due to frequent bleaching.
The hair cuticle is also permanently raised by bleaching which results in rapid and continuous loss of moisture from the hair.
Bleached hair is porous, dry, and brittle. You can experience continued problems of split-ends and hair breakage if you bleach your hair too often.
Hence, to summarize, bleaching does damage your hair and you should be mindful and careful of it.
Bleaching can also cause hair loss directly if you have a chemical mishap - for example, you leave the bleach on your scalp for too long - so do be really, really careful.
How to Repair Hair Damaged by Bleaching
Once the hair is damaged by bleaching and chemical exposure, you need to be really really careful with it
The following tips can be considered for repairing hair damaged by bleaching:
Most shampoos contain strong chemicals which can damage your hair. You don’t want your already damaged hair to suffer further damages.
So it is recommended to start by using a good quality shampoo.
Ditch any shampoo which has harsh chemicals and opt for ones which contain more natural and mild ingredients.
These mild shampoos will be gentle on your hair and not dry it completely or strip it of its natural oils.
Any shampoo which contains parabens and sulfates should be strictly avoided as it can severely damage your hair.
You can also consider using a good quality natural cleansing conditioner
This will keep your hair moisturized and nourished and aid in the hair repair process.
Once you’ve bleached your hair - it’s gone through a certain level of damage blow dryers, curling wands, flat irons or hair straighteners apply heat directly to your hair and make your hair even more dry and lifeless. They’ll also make the hair brittle and increase hair breakage.
Towel drying your hair is the best option as it does not expose your hair to heat directly. If your hair is already damaged due to bleaching and chemical exposure, then you should strictly not use blow dryers and flat irons on it during the repair cycle.
But do be careful to not put your towel up in a turban - this can tug at the hair follices at your hair line, which are the weakest of all the hair follicles, and they’re even weaker when wet.
If you’ve got really long hair, comb it with a wide tooth comb, then using a soft brush, brush it over to one side - then put your hair in a protective style and tie it up using a band which doesn't dent the hair!
Conditioning your hair is absolutely critical to helping it heal faster. You can use a good quality conditioner after washing your hair.
Apply the conditioner on the hair from root to tip and leave it for some time.
Rinse your hair thoroughly with cold or lukewarm water to remove the conditioner.
In addition to using the regular conditioner, you can also consider providing deep conditioning to your hair.
Deep conditioners have low molecular weight which allow them to penetrate deeper and condition the hair cuticle and cortex.
This will help to condition and nourish your hair from within and make them healthier and stronger.
Hair consists of natural oils which keep it moisturized and nourished. When you expose your hair to bleaching and harmful chemicals, they strip off all the natural oils from them. This makes the hair dry and dull.
It can also cause hair breakage by making the hair brittle.
A good way to speed up the hair repair process when it is damaged due to bleaching is to regularly use natural oils:
Such as: coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, etc. to keep your hair moisturized and nourished. Or our very own hair growth serum.
Apply the natural oil on your hair and scalp and massage gently. Leave them to work on the hair and scalp for some time and then rinse or wash it off using a mild shampoo.
Most people have the misconception that washing their hair with shampoo on daily basis can make their hair better - BUT THIS IS WRONG STOP!
You should use shampoo on your hair not more than twice a week.
Washing your hair with shampoo (especially if the shampoo contains SLS!) too often makes it too dry and also robs the natural oils from the hair and scalp. This makes the hair brittle and lifeless.
If you already have damaged hair due to bleaching, then washing them too often can only accentuate the damage further. Washing less often helps your hair to retain the moisture and natural oils which can moisturize it better and expedite the repairing process.
Getting frequent haircuts is another effective way to deal with hair damaged caused due to bleaching.
Damaged hair is more prone to split ends which can make the hair more brittle and increase breakage. Aim to get a haircut every 6-8 weeks to get rid of the split ends.
Your hair will also look much thicker and healthier after getting a haircut.
Hair damaged from bleaching needs time to be repaired and nourished.
It is a no brainer that while the damaged hair is repairing itself, you should stay completely clear of using any form of hair colors and avoid subjecting your hair to any chemical procedures.Such as color, perm, or bleaching during this repair phase.
So do give your hair a break for at least three months!
Do be mindful that lots of styling products can contain harmful chemicals which strip your hair of natural oils and can damage your hair even more.
Natural and organic hairstyling products may be a bit costlier but they are worth the investment as they provide you soft and smooth hair.
Hair is made up of a rough protein called Keratin. It’s an essential protein which creates a foolproof barrier around the cortex.
When your hair is damaged due to bleaching and chemicals, then the proteins which make the outer cuticles of your hair are dissolved.
Due to bleaching, the cuticle scales lift and expose the cortex which causes hair damage.
In order to repair this damage, you need to restore the lost protein from your hair.
Try using hair products which contain keratin. Regular use of such products will patch up the damaged keratin and provide strength and nourishment to your hair.
If your hair is not clean and tangled, then they will break more often. You should use a wide-tooth comb and run it through your hair regularly to keep the hair detangled.
In order to keep the hair detangled and moisturized, you can dab some oil or water on the comb and run it through your hair.
Doing so will considerably reduce the breakage and protect them from getting damaged further. It is also likely to accelerate the repair cycle for hair

Put simply dandruff is a skin condition which affects your scalp. In some cases, dandruff can also be found behind the ears, on eyebrows, or even on the face.
However, these are rare and we will deal mostly with dandruff that affects your scalp in this video.
The key symptoms of dandruff include flakiness of the scalp and mild itching.
A more severe form of dandruff is known as seborrheic dermatitis, which can cause inflammation of skin.
Researchers claim that there is no known cure for dandruff.
However, using some antifungal creams can improve your condition and reduce the occurrence of dandruff and can soothe the scalp
And so can the nifty home made remedies that we’re going to share!
So let’s take a look at the causes of dandruff,
as once we identify these, it’ll be much easier to treat them.
Dandruff can be caused by the following key factors:
This is one of the most common reasons for occurrence of dandruff.
It is mostly marked by redness of skin covered with flakes or scales. Areas which are rich in oil glands are most affected by this condition.
Another reason for dandruff is lack of scalp hygiene.
If you don’t clean your scalp regularly with a good quality shampoo, it can lead to buildup of oil and dead skin cells. These dead skin cells and oil buildup leads to dandruff.
Malassezia is a yeast-like fungus which resides in your scalp.
It can cause skin irritation and flakiness which leads to dandruff occurrence.
The most common cause of dandruff is dry skin.
When your skin is not properly hydrated, it becomes dry which causes flakiness. These flakes then develop into dandruff. You would have noticed that the dandruff occurrence is more prominent in winters as your scalp becomes drier during it.
Dandruff flakes caused by dry skin are smaller than any of the ways I’ve just mentioned.
When You Need Immediate Remedies for Dandruff
Dandruff in itself is not a serious medical condition. You don’t need immediate medication to get it cured.
However, it can point to other health disorders in your body.

Breezula is a brand name for the drug clascoterone,
The drug is a topical solution that’s applied to the scalp in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.
Breezula is said to inhibit Dyhdrotestoerone which can cause hair loss. This stops hair miniaturization, or thinning and loss - and as a result stops male / female pattern baldness
The thing that makes Breezula so special is that it will be the very first topical anti-androgen for hair loss in both men and women. It works similarly to finasteride - which is FDA Approved
As breezula is still going through clinical trials - it’s not yet approved.
So let’s quickly share the Clinical Trials! Why is Breezula so special?
The drug is now in Phase II clinical trials, 400 participants were involved in a trial that lasted 12 months.
The phase II trial participants, each with mild to moderate androgenetic alopecia, used four different dosages of Breezula
All groups saw an increase in target hair counts and hair widths during the study period, and positive changes in their hair growth assessment
The placebo group, on the other hand, saw worsening of their hair loss when left untreated.
And so the researchers point out that: “These data confirm that Clascoterone stops the loss of hair and grows new hair.”
Let’s discuss side effects!
The manufacturer states that there have been no “treatment-related serious adverse events” among patients in the clinical trials, declaring their drug as safe and free of side effects.
The drug is not currently available for use in the U.S, as it’s still undergoing clinical trials.
According to the manufacturer, phase III trials are up next in men. If and when this stage is completed, the drug can move on to the FDA approval stage.
As of September, 2020, Cassiopea anticipates beginning phase III trials in the first half of 2021, but they have been previously delayed by factors related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and could be delayed again.
The drug maker expects beginning sales of the drug in 2024, though it isn’t clear if they’ll release it in European markets first, or globally (including the United States) all at once.
In the company’s annual report, they claim the hope is Breezula will be “at least as effective as Propecia,” a drug currently available and proven effective in treating male pattern hair loss.

Saw palmetto is an extract from the deep purple berries of the saw palmetto plant. It's been traditionally used by native Americans for thousands of years for urinary infections or reproductive issues.
This herbal supplement is available over the counter and it is most commonly used for decreasing symptoms of an enlarged prostate called benign prostatic hypertrophy or bph.
Saw Palmetto has also been used to prevent complications from prostate surgery and for treating other prostate conditions saw palmetto has also been touted as a male pattern baldness treatment or an androgenetic alopecia treatment and it's also being used to treat sexual dysfunctions but there is no good scientific evidence to support any of these uses.
Well the jury is actually out on this there seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence and lots of people have had great results in taking saw palmetto on a regular basis to help treat hair loss.In particular men who are experiencing male pattern baldness.
The clinical evidence shows however that the results of saw palmetto on hair growth are actually quite limited. There isn't actually enough research out there on the saw palmetto extract to prove that it does encourage normal healthy hair growth. However since saw palmetto in many people doesn't seem to cause any side effects, it's something that they would just like to try and see if it works for them or not work for them. Knowing that they are unlikely to experience side effects.
DHT stands for dihydrotestosterone and it's a male sexual hormone that's Responsible for developing male characteristics for example maturation of the peni, a deeper voice growth of facial body and pubic hair and development and maintenance of the prostate glands and seminal vesicles.
High or excessive levels of DHT are not the cause of male pattern baldness. It's the hair follicles sensitivity to DHT. So in genetically predisposed men in certain areas of their scalp their hair follicles are more sensitive to DHT than in other people.
In this way miniaturization or hair loss happens when DHT attaches itself to these sensitive hair follicles and it starts to shrink them causing miniaturization which eventually leads to hair loss.
There have been some notable studies that show that DHTis effective in inhibiting the enzyme 5 alpha reductase. 5 alpha reductase is responsible for converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone so when five alpha reductase is limited less DHTis converted.
Don't forget to pick up your free ebook everything you need to know about blocking DHTfrom itreallyworksvitamins.com the book includes a recipe for a homemade scalp exfoliant and the best foods and drinks that help to block dht and regrow your hair the link is in the description below.
We have actually had a number of questions about taking certain supplements alongside It Really Works vitamins. There are no contraindications to say that you can't take saw palmetto with our products
It Really Works vitamins are packed with 22 essential nutrients that encourage normal healthy stronger hair growth we're not just suitable for men, we're also suitable for women as long as you're not pregnant or breastfeeding and we are also suitable for all hair types.
Although saw palmetto is an inhibitor of five alpha reductase it should be noted that in one piece of research it was found that saw palmetto is actually quite a weak inhibitor of five alpha reductase. DR Robert Edwards md also points out that Saw palmetto may also have a role in reducing estrogen and DHT.
Androgen receptors in vitro studies have shown that saw palmetto inhibits alpha androgenic receptors. These receptors which are often called androgen receptors, allow the body to respond appropriately to hormones. If the receptors are reduced it could be said that there'll be less of a reaction to DHT overall there just aren't enough studies out there proving the efficiency of saw palmetto as a DHT blocker there are also not enough studies to demonstrate that saw palmetto is effective in re-growing hair or has any beneficial effect on bph symptoms or on post void residual bladder volume.
When taken by mouth it's likely that saw palmetto for most people is safe side effects are usually mild and they include:
There have been two reports of liver damage in people who took saw palmetto however there's just not enough information to prove that saw palmetto was the actual cause of the liver damage.
It's said that saw palmetto is likely unsafe if you are pregnant or breastfeeding so please do speak to your doctor if you're pregnant or breastfeeding and you're considering taking saw palmetto but in general it is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Since saw palmetto doesn't cause side effects in many people - it’s a herbal supplement that a lot of people feel that they can try, and it’s unlikely to cause too many issues.
It’s responsible for developing male characteristics - maturation of the penis and scrotum at puberty, growth of facial, body and pubic hair, and development and maintenance of the prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
High or excessive DHT levels are not the sole cause of hair loss. It’s actually hair follicle DHT sensitivity.
In Genetically predisposed guys in certain areas on the scalp, their hair follicles are more sensitive to the effects of DHT DHT is a potent hormone. It is 10X more powerful than Testosterone. And it is responsible for male pattern baldness.
It attaches itself to receptors in hair follicles causing Androgenetic Alopecia. There have been some notable studies that show that Saw palmetto helps to reduce 5-alpha reductase. 5 alpha reductase is the enzyme that converts testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone.
This study found that through inhibiting 5-Alpha Reductase, less DHT is converted from testosterone, and lots of Saw Palmetto users report a slow down in hair loss.
Saw Palmetto Capsules for Hair Loss / Saw Palmetto Supplements for hair loss For many people Saw Palmetto has no real side effects or have limited side effects so it may be a herbal supplement that you’d like to try out.
Although Saw Palmetto is an inhibitor of 5 Alpha Reductase it should be noted that, this book on Integrative Medicine shows that Saw palmetto is a weak inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase. Dr Robert Edwards MD also points out that Saw Palmetto may also have a role in reducing the number of estrogen and DHT receptors.
What do studies on Saw Palmetto for Hair Loss say? In vitro studies have shown that Saw palmetto inhibits alpha adrenergic receptors (Goepel et al., 1999), Saw Palmetto also acts on the Androgen receptor These receptors, which are often called Androgen receptors - allow the body to respond appropriately to these hormones. And so if the receptors are reduced - it could be said that there would be less of an overall response to DHT. Overall, there aren’t : enough studies or large enough studies, to demonstrate that Saw Palmetto is effective in regrowing hair or has any beneficial effect on BPH symptoms or on post void residual bladder volume (Bent et al., 2006).
When taken by mouth: Saw palmetto is LIKELY SAFE for most people when taken by mouth for up to 3 years.
Side effects are usually mild and may include:
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea
vomiting
constipation
Diarrhea.
There is some concern that saw palmetto might cause liver or pancreas problems in some people. There have been two reports of liver damage and one report of pancreas damage in people who took saw palmetto. However, there is not enough information to know if saw palmetto was the actual cause of these side effects.
When given rectally: Saw palmetto is POSSIBLY SAFE when administered into the rectum appropriately for up to 30 days. It is unknown if it is safe to use for longer periods of time. Special Precautions & Warnings: Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Saw palmetto is LIKELY UNSAFE when taken by mouth during pregnancy or breast-feeding. It acts like a hormone, and this could be dangerous to the pregnancy. Don't use it during pregnancy or breast-feeding.
Surgery: Saw palmetto might slow blood clotting. There is some concern that it might cause extra bleeding during and after surgery. Stop using saw palmetto at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.

]]>However, before you freak out, know that a bit of daily hair loss is not a cause for concern. It's natural to lose 50 to 100 (and sometimes even up to 150) strands of hair each day. Hair loss and excessive shedding, on the other hand, can be caused by a variety of factors ranging from drugs and hormones to vitamin deficiencies and stress.
The good news is that if you can identify the cause, you may be able to reverse or at least slow down the process. Continue reading to discover what's causing your hair loss so you can reclaim your thick, full locks.
Although sunlight provides the vitamin D that your hair needs, excessive sun exposure can damage hair cuticles, pigments, and proteins, resulting in dryness, brittleness, and hair breakage. Furthermore, UV radiation adds to the production of free radicals, which can cause severe oxidative stress on your hair. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, use a hair mask, or spritz some hair mist to protect your hair from the sun.
Sometimes, it may be your hair care routine that's causing your hair to break or fall out. Using too much shampoo, brushing or combing your hair while it is wet, or brushing too hard or too frequently can all strain and damage your strands.
Using hairdryers, curling wands, and straighteners every day can dry out your locks, making them prone to breakage and hair fall. Harsh chemicals from bleaching, dyeing, and relaxing can also damage hair follicles and lead to hair loss.
Try air-drying your hair instead of using a hairdryer, and finger combing rather than using a regular brush or comb.
Wearing tight, pulled-back hairstyles such as ponytails, buns, cornrows, and extensions may stress the hair follicles over time, leading to shedding and irreversible hair loss.
To prevent hair damage, loosen up your hairstyle or wear your hair down as much as possible.
Hats are fantastic for covering and protecting your hair and scalp from the sun and environmental stress, but they also rub the same area on your head repeatedly. This form of friction can pull the hair and cause follicular irritation and hair loss, especially if you wear hats every day.
Take a break from wearing hats or opt for loose-fitting hats to keep your hair happy and healthy.
If you don't shampoo every day but notice large clumps of hair in your shower drain when you do, you may simply need to wash your hair more frequently. When you don't wash your hair often enough, oils and dirt build up on your scalp and clog your pores, causing hair damage and hindering growth.
Minimize using dry shampoo and wash your hair regularly to remove any buildup on your scalp. Also, stay away from products with harsh chemicals and preservatives that can cause scalp irritation and worsen hair loss.
Instead of using commercial hair products with synthetic ingredients, add any of the following natural ingredients to your shampoo to slow down hair loss and boost hair growth: aloe vera, argan oil, coconut oil, glycerin, green tea, honey, lemon juice, and rosemary oil.
Hair loss can be caused by any hormonal method of birth control, such as pills, injections, skin patches, and implants. If you have a family history of hormone-related hair loss, you may experience hair loss while taking the pill or shortly after stopping it.
The good news is that hair loss caused by birth control pills is often temporary. Hair loss should stop within a few months after you’ve started or stopped using the pill.
Since the cells in your hair follicles divide and grow remarkably faster than any other cell in your body, your hair requires a lot of energy and nutrients to stay healthy. A deficiency in nutrients, particularly B vitamins, iron, protein, and zinc, can disrupt the hair cycle and cause follicles to hibernate prematurely, resulting in excessive hair fall.
It's important to maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet that includes all of the nutrients your hair needs. Dark, leafy greens, nuts, and whole grains are good sources of iron. You can also add more protein to your meals by eating more lean meat, eggs, fish, beans, and seeds.
Too much stress can cause your body's immune system to turn on itself and damage your hair follicles. Stress and anxiety impact hormone levels, particularly cortisol, resulting in hair loss—which exacerbates an already stressful situation.
The bright side is that your hair will grow back to normal once you manage your stress levels. Get enough sleep, exercise daily, and practice yoga or meditation to reduce stress.
Similar to seasonal allergies, seasonal shedding occurs when a change in temperature puts stress on your scalp and hair follicles and causes strands to fall out. Your body goes through an adjustment period whenever the seasons change, which may throw off your hair growth cycle.
Hair tends to grow a little faster in the summer then sheds more in the fall than other times of the year. Because hair grows quicker in the summer, it's only normal to see greater shedding toward the end of the season.
Aside from coughing, fever, loss of taste, and fatigue, hair loss has also been identified as a common symptom of COVID-19. Temporary hair loss is normal after having a high fever, and patients may notice clumps of hair falling out when brushing their hair or while showering.
Even if you never developed a fever or caught the COVID-19 infection, you may still experience hair shedding. Increased stress and anxiety brought about by the pandemic can cause telogen effluvium, a form of temporary hair loss resulting from prolonged periods of stress.
While this side effect may be distressing, it is only temporary. Most cases of hair shedding are over in about three to six months, and hair growth will slowly shift back to normal.
The key to treating hair loss is identifying what is causing it. Consult a dermatologist who is trained to diagnose hair-related conditions, get to the root of the problem, and effectively treat hair breakage and falling. To prevent hair loss and promote hair growth, avoid the causes outlined above, maintain a diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, iron, and protein, and manage your stress.
Or try It Really Works Vitamins made from natural ingredients which ensure your hair has all the nutrients it needs to be healthy.

It’s typically imported from the Mediterranean region — especially Spain, Greece, and Italy.
Olive oil is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants. It’s unique chemical composition is part of why some cultures have used it to improve the texture and appearance of hair for centuries
There’s even some evidence to suggest that olive oil can soothe your scalp, strengthen your hair follicle, and potentially stimulate hair growth. We dive into the research behind using olive oil for stronger, longer hair.
In a 2015 study on mice, researchers found that applying olive-tree derived ingredients stimulated hair growth. However, this study certainly doesn’t tell us everything we need to know about olive oil and hair growth.
First, we don’t know if the results would extend to human hair. Second, we don’t know if olive oil would have the same effects as the other elements of the olive tree.
We do know this: Olive oil is the fruit of a tree called Olea europaea, and a fat called oleic acid makes up much of olive oil’s composition. Oleic acid has antioxidant qualities, which might help slow the effects of hair loss.
Olive products may also have antibacterial properties, which could potentially play a role in a healthy scalp.
Olive oil has shown potential for helping to reduce and prevent split ends.
So while we may not have concrete evidence that olive oil promotes hair growth, we know that it has protective and nutritional qualities that might make your hair look and feel healthier.
Those qualities may give the illusion that your hair is growing faster, even though there is no evidence to suggest that olive oil can actually increase hair growth.

Magnesium is one of the most overlooked minerals for hair growth but it helps in two main ways! Prevents Buildups on The Scalp Our hair follicles can get blocked with calcium deposits - which is what can lead to dandruff and dead skin.
Magnesium helps to stop these calcium deposits from happening - and it does this through keeping your circulation active Better circulation means that calcium’s getting to your bones rather than just sitting on your scalp.
And all other nutrients from your diet are also getting to your follicles. Protein Synthesis Second, magnesium helps with synthesizing protein. Hair follicles are made up of a protein called Keratin.
Better protein synthesis means healthier, stronger, fuller hair Protein synthesis also helps create melanin, which helps to slow down graying.
Guys are advised to get 400 mg of Magnesium per day, and women should aim for at least 310 mg
Apparently over 80% of adults aren’t getting the minimum amount of magnesium to keep hair healthy
Magnesium can be found in:
Make sure you are including these in your diet.

You will need: A blender or juicer. Plastic bottle Plastic Funnel And here’s your shopping list:
Take the juice of 1 whole lemon and blend with the entire cucumber. Add around 100g of ginger and half a tablespoon of the salt and 1 teaspoon of powdered activated charcoal.
There’s no need to add water, but if the mixture has turned lumpy. Sift the mixture through a sieve or muslin. Using your plastic funnel, add this mixture to your plastic bottle and give it a vigorous shake until it’s well-mixed.
Now you’re going to need at least 10 minutes to spare. Apply the mixture to the area of your scalp that you feel is affected by DHT.
Gently massage this exfoliant in and leave the mixture to work its magic on the scalp for ten to fifteen minutes. Rinse the mixture out with warm (not hot) water. It’s a good idea to do this natural scalp scrub once per week and within a month you’re likely to notice a real different.
Lemon juice is a great source of vitamin C, which can boost your immune system and reduce inflammation. When applied to the scalp ,lemon juice helps to absorb excess oils that lead to a greasy, unhealthy scalp. In this way Lemon juice also helps to eradicate dandruff. Lemon juice can make it look shinier, especially after you’ve been in the sun.
“Cucumber juice is extremely good for your hair and scalp. It contains silicon, sulphur and vitamins including Vitamin A and C, silica, Potassium, Alkaline materials, Manganese, Magnesium which collectively stop hair fall, and promote healthy hair.”
Activated charcoal also helps to cleanse your scalp of lots of impurities, removes the sebum and deep cleanses the pores It unclogs the pores in your scalp and detoxifies the hair follicles.
This makes your scalp a better environment for hair growth, Scalp scrubs remove dandruff, excess oil and build up, rebalance, and boost circulation. In this Vogue Article: Steve Shiel, scientific director at L'Oréal UK & Ireland, said"
A good exfoliation helps keep the environment hair grows in - the scalp - balanced and nourished; from stimulating circulation and sloughing off dead skin cells and flakes to eliminating product build-up at scalp level, better hair growth and a mirror-like shine is but a scrub away. And shampoo alone won’t cut it: “You need a scrub to effectively remove excess sebum and product residue and leave the scalp's surface feeling clean and refreshed, which they are better able to do thanks to natural exfoliating ingredients."
We’ve talked about scalp massage in some of our other videos, Massaging your scalp dilates small arteries within your scalp that increase the blood flow to the follicles. “Gentle massaging of the scalp can increase blood flow to the hair follicle, the root of the hair, which is the only living part of the hair,”
Scalp massage for hair loss also reduces stress, which can worsen hair loss. All of this can improve the texture of hair, making it thicker, stronger and healthier over time. For best results, it's important to regularly massage your scalp - at least three times per week for around 3 months. Scalp massages to promote hair growth is a slow process, but extremely effective.
In this 2012 study, researchers found that caffeine can even help to suppress male pattern baldness in the laboratory environment.
Caffeine helps to stimulate the blood vessels beneath the scalp, encourage healthy hair growth, slow down hair loss and can also help to keep hair shiny and soft. So these homemade caffeine oils are definitely worth trying out.

Tea Tree Oil: This antimicrobial and anti-fungal can help to unclog hair follicles, heal scalp conditions such as dandruff and nourish roots. Tea tree oil also has anti-androgenic properties, which can block and reduce DHT production.
The powerful antioxidants in Green Tea help strengthen hair in a number of ways: ▪ Studies show that green tea contains the antioxidant “EGCG” (or epigallocatechin gallate) that has the ability to stimulate the hair growth cycle.
When studying mice stricken with hair loss problems, researchers found that hair loss was halted in all mice which received green tea in their drinking water and surprisingly triggered new hair growth on the head of some of the mice. ▪ Green Tea contains B vitamin (panthenol), which you usually find in hair conditioners, softens and strengthens the hair follicle whilst helping to control split ends. ▪ Application of Green Tea to the scalp, results in a significant elongation of the hair follicle. ▪
The anti-inflammatory properties in Green Tea helps to stop hair loss and even promote new hair growth. That means that you can use it to cleanse your scalp and fight scalp infections that may weaken your hair roots. Remember that a healthy scalp creates the best conditions for fast hair growth.

Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants. The oils capture the plant’s scent and flavor, or “essence.”
Unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its characteristic essence.
Essential oils are obtained through distillation (via steam and/or water) or mechanical methods, such as cold pressing.
Once the aromatic chemicals have been extracted, they are combined with a carrier oil to create a product that’s ready for use.
The way the oils are made is important, as essential oils obtained through chemical processes are not considered true essential oils.
This point is essential - if the oil has gone through a chemical process - it’s less effective. And it’s the cheaper oils that go through this process. And I would suggest avoid these cheaper, essential oils.
The Labels:
If a label outright says “fragrance oil” and there’s no Latin name present, it’s not an essential oil.
Again, if it doesn’t list the Latin name as well as the common name, don’t buy it. It’s likely a mix of synthetic perfumed “fragrance oil.” It might contain some essential oil, but who really knows?
For example, a label shouldn’t just say “lavender,” it should specify which of the many species of lavender the it was extracted from. Lavandula angustifolia is very different from Lavandula latifolia, for example.
Look for essential oils sold in dark glass bottles that are clearly labeled with the Latin name, plant parts used, type of extraction, growth method, net contents, and country of origin.

As you browse winter hairstyles inspirations and tutorials for the holidays, don’t forget to throw in some helpful hair hacks for the chilly weather.
The extreme drop in temperature during winter can cause a series of (literally) hair-raising problems to your luscious locks. So, to help all gorgeous men and women counter their winter hair dilemmas, this blog has compiled a list of effective and practical hair hacks for the winter season.
But first, you need to have a clear idea of how extremely cold temperatures can affect your hair’s health:
There are several ways that the harshly chilly climate can potentially ruin your hair. The most typical of which include:
Cold weather conditions can make your hair frizzier than ever. As the chilly air comes into contact with your hair, it tends to produce electric charges that leave your hair unruly and sticking out. Say, you just got out of your house, the wintry breeze will make it seem as though you’ve been standing in the snow for hours. People with dry hair are also more prone to disheveled and coarse-looking hair during winter.
Since you cannot apply lotion, moisturizing cream, or anti-itching balm on your scalp when it starts to feel itchy and dry, it becomes a bigger problem when it is exposed to a sudden or extreme drop in temperature. The effect is somewhat similar to windburn on the lips.
As your scalp becomes more itchy and unbearable, the chances are you will see more “snowflakes” appearing all over your hair. It doesn’t help that you end up scratching your scalp due to the intense prickly sensation.
The colder the atmosphere becomes, the less moisture is left on your hair and scalp. Your skin cells produce less oil to hydrate your roots, making them less replenished and more prone to breakage.
Suffering from hair loss during the winter is mainly due to the lack of moisture on your scalp and roots. If you allow your hair to stay dry throughout the wintry season, you are likely to experience more hair fall than normal. While hair loss during winter may not be as dramatic as seeing bald patches, it is still unnerving to see that several hair strands have fallen on the floor.
The good news is that there are safe, tested-and-proven hair care hacks that you can apply to maintain your hair’s luster, volume, and strength.
What are these expert-approved methods?
Instead, wash it once or twice a week. Since the colder months during winter are stripping your hair off of its natural moisture, it is best to limit the frequency at which you wash your hair. Excessive shampooing and washing can do more harm than good to your mane.
You might be washing away the natural oils that keep your hair and scalp well-hydrated. Also, refrain from using shampoo with super-strong effects. Mild variations are recommended.
Contrary to shampoos, conditioners do not leave your hair void of moisture. They are responsible for adding a protective layer over your strands so that it stays shiny, smooth, and frizz-free. Some conditioners are also designed to add strength and vitality to prevent breakage, split-ends, and hair fall.
If you are prone to rubbing your scalp with your towel to dry your hair, then now is the time to stop that habit. Pat your hair dry with a microfiber towel or a soft, cotton shirt. Doing so lessens the amount of friction on your scalp when you rub it. Putting too much force on your scalp irritates it and triggers itchiness, dryness, and dandruff.
Blow drying your hair means exposing it to excessive heat. Generally, your hair cannot withstand extreme temperatures, whether it be hot or cold. Both can cause dryness and leave your hair lackluster and brittle. Not to mention, the quick transition from a heat-drying session to a very chilly wind exposure is enough to make your locks scream for help.
That’s right—your regular diet also has an integral role in promoting healthier hair during winter. Stock up on vitamin E, fatty acids, minerals, and protein to ensure your hair and scalp receive sufficient nourishment inside and out. Poor dietary habits affect the rate at which your body regenerates its cells. The slower your body produces new cells, the more your hair becomes dull and damaged.

Wear a bonnet or a hat to protect your hair from the extreme chill whenever you head outside your home. Most men and women tend to underestimate the effects of winter on their hair once they’ve used a conditioner and hair serum on their locks. In truth, all the protective layers of their hair products are no match once their hair gets exposed to the cold. Not only does wearing a hat or bonnet make you feel cozy, but it also helps keep your entire body warm.
Your hair is your crowning glory, and so it needs to be well-protected from harsh external conditions as much as you want it to look spectacular.

So this 2013 study found that a mixture containing tree tea tree oil and minoxidil was more effective than just the Minoxidil on its own in improving hair growth.
Minoxidil is a chemical product - it's a vasodilator, so it helps to enlarge your veins that
are heading up towards your scalp making sure that there's lots of nutrients that
get there so that your scalp is nourished and your hair is healthy.
Tea Tree Oil has powerful cleansing and Antibacterial and Antimicrobial properties so when used a directly onto your scalp topically it can help to
unplug clogged pores and increase hair growth.
It's also really important to remember that Tea Tree Oil is very concentrated so please do check, the instructions because you don't want to add too much.
More studies are needed on using Tea Tree Oil.
Saw palmetto oil (SPO) has a direct affect on the levels of testosterone in the body, and has been shown to reduce levels of DHT and testosterone.
This is because it limits the enzyme alpha-5 reductase which converts testosterone to the DHT, which binds to and inhibits your hair follicles.
Lavender has lots of antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that help to keep your scalp really healthy because when you've got a healthy scalp this is like the soil for your flower bed
everything that comes out of the flower bed is gonna be healthy and beautiful. Keeping your scalp healthy and nourishing, it is the best way forward for healthy hair growth.
This study found that Lavender Oil is able to generate faster hair growth in mice.
Lavender Oil has also done really well in comparison to minoxidil how
Trials on mice showed that peppermint oil works almost as well as Rogaine in treating hair loss, but without any of the potential side effects such as scalp irritation
Peppermint oil can help to promote hair growth in the anagen or growing phase
This study found that peppermint oil when used on mice increase the number of: Follicles, Follicle depth and Overall hair growth
As all of these oils are essential oils - so they need to be mixed with a carrier oil
You can’t apply these oils directly onto your skin as they need to be diluted!
Add ten drops of the essential oil of choice to one ounce of jojoba oil or Coconut oil, or scale up if you want to make a large batch.
Massage it into your scalp using your fingertips for four minutes before you shampoo. Remember to use a sulfate and paraben shampoo so they don't actually strip the oils out of your hair again.
Add 30 drops of essential oil to 3 oz coconut oil.
Massage the mixture into your roots and leave on for thirty minutes or so -
You can also leave it on over night - but with coconut oil - don’t leave it on longer than overnight because if it’s left on for too long - it actually starts to dry out your hair.
If you have a healthy shampoo, which is free of parabens, sulphates, mineral dyes etc - you can add essential oils to your wash routine by simply adding the oil to your shampoo. Please don’t do this with a shampoo listing sulfates as an ingredient, or you’ll just waste your money on oils that will be stripped away.
To figure out how many drops of essential oil you should add to your shampoo, some recommend to multiply the number of ounces in the shampoo bottle by ten, and add that many drops of essential oil.

This smells and feels really fresh on the scap
These two oils are some of the most studied and most often cited as natural DHT blockers so this would be perfect to blend with coconut oil and leave on as a mask.
Lavender punches you in the face with that purple smell and helps the saw palmetto work its magic on that alpha-5 reductase. Massage it into your scalp with a little jojoba oil for some follicle invigoration.
Spicy tea tree oil adds an anti-fungal kick to a milder pumpkin seed oil making this blend a great punchy tonic for your morning shampoo. If you're liking our content so far please do give it a big thumbs up.

Sounds crazy right? It’s actually one of the main theories regarding hair loss. The thought is that excessive ejection of seminal fluid may lead to a protein deficiency in the body and thereby lead to hair loss.
Male pattern baldness (or androgenic alopecia) affects half of men around the globe by the time they reach the age of 50. This condition makes recipients more sensitive to the hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which shrinks hair follicles, eventually causing them to close, which results in the hair loss. But it turns out the ejaculation of a small amount of protein (although nutrition often plays a part in the hair growth cycle) does not in itself cause hair loss problems.
A second theory suggests that sex and masturbation increase testosterone levels which lead to the production of more dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which leads to higher levels of hair loss.
This theory falls down too as dihydrotestosterone can only be produced in genetically predisposed individuals. Half of all men worldwide inherit male pattern baldness.
As Doctor Sanusi Umar MD highlights, “Masturbation does not cause genetic hair loss. Your genetic make-up is what determines male pattern balding.”
However, you may have heard of NoFap.
NOfap is global community of people who are choosing to abstain from pornography and masturbation for a period of time.
Members of the NoFap community have shared the benefits of abstention including:
Some of the physical benefits shared by NoFappers are:
While there is no scientific link between masturbation and hair loss, some people do experience results when choosing to abstain.
The good news is that we have a regimen that can help regardless. It Really Works Vitamins are made with natural ingredients that work to inhibit the production of DHT. For additional hair growth support, you can combine the daily vitamins with our NEW vegan hair serum.
